About Us

A COMMUNITY AMATEUR SPORTS CLUB

Horncastle & District Tennis Club has been providing opportunities to play tennis in the area for over 70 years.  Initially located on grass courts in Stanhope Road, the club moved to the current Coronation Walk location in the 1970’s.  This site was further developed in 2004 to provide the great courts we have today. In 2007 the  Time4tennis coaching team introduced a full programme of activities and the club began to expand.   During 2013 the courts were re-painted and the Courtside Clubhouse added.

Membership has grown over the years to the present all-time high of 235, split almost equally between adults and juniors.  We value the social benefits of playing tennis very highly and encourage interaction between all members. A variety of historic commemorative cups are played for each year.  Some more serious than others!!

The Fiddies Cup is awarded to the junior who has completed the most LTA recognised matches in the year. The Jack Bryant Cup for Endeavour is awarded to the member who has made the biggest contribution to the club in any way – on or off court. The Stonnel Cup is awarded in memory of a previous grass court grounds man.  The format is a friendly Mixed Doubles tournament where partners for the day are picked out of a hat. The Connie Bark Memorial trophy is another fun Mixed Doubles Tournament in memory of a former stalwart member of the club.  The format is American Mixed Doubles where partners change each round. The annual Club Championships provides more serious competition for those who want it.  Singles and Doubles – Men’s, Ladies and Mixed.  Members presently seem to be a bit shy of this one but we’re working on ways of making it more attractive to different levels.

Inter Club Team Competition

We enter teams in local and County Leagues for those who wish to represent their club. Most age groups are catered for from U8 to Veterans.  Team tennis is a fun popular way of adding that competitive edge to our tennis.  To find the Leagues we play in follow this link.

We hold a presentation evening each year to celebrate our successes. We have an adult Christmas Party at a local venue and the juniors have on court Christmas celebrations with seasonal prizes.
